Popular Mvurwi artist Dion Makumba (43), popularly known as Vadhangolango, who made a name for himself in Mashonaland Central province through drawing, has been hit hard by the deadly Covid-19 pandemic after his Germany trip was cancelled.

The artist was set to exhibit some of his paintings at the Wachi Gallery and Wild Geese Festival in Harare in June, an opportunity he would use to meet his new buyers ahead of his Germany trip.

“The deadly disease has affected me very much since my international trips are now in limbo,” said Makumba.

“I was supposed to go to Germany and Dubai this year for exhibitions, but with this deadly disease it is no longer possible.”

He has paintings, which are already in Germany and some of his partners are locked there due to the outbreak.

The artist said paintings do not pay much in Zimbabwe and his desire was to leave the country and strike better fortunes abroad.

Having started arts at the age of 13 while in Grade 7 at Holy Rosary Primary School in Mvurwi, Vadhangolango has never looked back.

He was nicknamed Vadhangolango after he was rated number one in the province, hence he bragged that he is the best.
