Show to promote African talent launched

BY SHARON SIBINDI

International Music African Academy has launched a talent show titled Talented Africa aimed at bringing peace and promoting social cohesion among Africans in South Africa.

The talent show, which will see various artistes from different countries such as Zimbabwean poet Albert Nyathi and South African musician Zahara as judges, will start in November till January 2021 at ICC Durban, South Africa, where the grand prize, sponsored by MTN, will be up for grabs.

International Music African Academy CEO Anthony Kabugo Nyanzi (pictured above) confirmed the developments to Standard Style yesterday.

“Talented Africa is a show that I created mainly to bring hope to Africans from all over the world, but mostly to celebrate our culture beliefs together,” said Nyanzi.

“I am a Ugandan living in South Africa and due to the situation that most people have faced while in South Africa, I discovered that South Africans do not know that there are other Africans.

“Of course, the show will be hosted in other countries, but we need to start from here for it to have more meaning.”

Nyanzi said a lot of Africans leave their motherland simply because they will be looking for platforms to support their skills and talents.

“Of which it’s true we do not have such platforms. However, I believe that we shall now have more reasons to love our continent through this opportunity and generations will know that there other Africans. All talents are welcome,” he said.

“The role of the artistes [Nyathi, Zahara and others] in this project is to judge, we joined different artistes in different fields because we are open to all skills and talents. In our judging panel we have poets, traditional leaders, and singers, among others. This is an annual event and it’s going to be hosted in different countries in Africa.”
