Academic writer and poet Mthulisi Ndlovu, also known as King KG, has released an unapologetic poetry anthology titled Politicking (Lockdown memoirs from within).

The Plumtree writer, who is also a philanthropist, crafted and polished the anthology in a space of six months of the global coronaviru-lockdown.

He said the unpleasant political and socio-economic situation in the country and Africa at large inspired the penning of the book.

“It talks of how people have been treated by their government(s) and how other unscrupulous politicians have capitalised on people’s perils and enhanced corruption and unleashed excruciating lowkey terrorism on innocent citizens,” Ndlovu told Standard Style.

“This includes, but is not limited to, mistreatment of the general populace by some rogue state agents, abductions of peace-loving fellow countrymen, women of courage, detention of journalists, suppression of the media, human rights activists and ordinary citizens, among others.

“Widespread human rights infringements and the insensitivity levels of most world governments has seen most people living in great fear and frustration with little to no hope of brighter days.

“Hunger, poverty and the devastating economic collapse and declining health care systems that has been exacerbated by the outbreak of coronavirus also takes a centre stage in the book, as mismanagement of funds and underhand tactics have become increasingly common among those that are in power.”

He said the book was a sincere and very broad anthology that covers a wide range of societal issues that include poverty, religion and systematic segregation among others.

“This book is the first project under my newly founded publishing company called Ubuntu Afro-Publishers,” Ndlovu said.

Politicking was edited by Sebastian T Sibanda, aka The Black Mamba, while proofreading was done by international award-winning and world record holding poet and playwright Philani A Nyoni and Bhekilizwe Dube.

The exquisite book cover concept, which has left tongues wagging, was designed by Simbarashe Mapweza of Blaq Designs.

Ndlovu has earned himself a name as some of his works are used for academic purposes under Zimsec O’ Level in a co-authored book titled Izinkondlo Ezinhlobonhlobo, which he is the majority content provider in.

He has penned five books and Politicking is the sixth.

“The response to the book is quite impressive as many are already doing preorders and showering me with overwhelming support,” Ndlovu said. The book is set to be launched next Sunday.
