Artistes form the cornerstone of societal development by defying such obstacles through songs of hope — and gospel musician Tinashe Mutandwa (pictured) has just done that by releasing a single track titled Make Progress this week.

The song is not only laden with messages of the Christian faith, but has also a melodious fusion of Afrobeat rhythms to cater for a diverse audience.

Speaking to Standard Style on his latest offering, Mutandwa said: “We conceptualise one-year goals and two-year plans at the beginning of each and every year as part of our resolutions. In all this, we will be targeting to make remarkable progress.

“That is exactly what inspired me to pen this song – that as the years go by, we need to register achievements in what we yearn for and in everything we do in life, hence the name of the track — Make Progress.”

Mutandwa said the young generation should not be dismayed by temporary hurdles they may encounter in their quest to realise their dreams, urging them to be optimistic in order to be fruitful.

But despite his main target audience being this group, the artiste emphasised that all age groups will find the song relevant to their livelihoods and can blissfully sing along.

On the objective of the single, the young artiste said: “God has the ability to turn things around the same way He transformed water into wine. If we believe in Him, He can effect change and positive development in one’s life,” he said.

“And this song is a little bit different from my previous ones in that I tried an Afropop sound and fused it with the orthodox gospel beat. I find it a product of experimental creativity in terms of its packaging. I always try to be different and unique when I make music.”

Despite showing resilience and determination, Mutandwa indicated he was not immune to the difficulties other artistes are facing in the music industry due to Zimbabwe’s devastating inflationary environment and the Covid-19-induced hardships currently ripping world economies apart Some of Mutandwa’s popular songs among his fans include Pfugama Unamate, Ndoda Uvepo Hwenyu, Open Door, Nemoto, Toimba and Nyaya Iyi.
