Zimbabwean motor racing ace Axcil Jefferies is set to make a second appearance at the 12th edition of the iconic Monaco Historic Formula 1 Grand Prix scheduled for April 23-25 in France.

The 27-year-old racing sensation made his debut at the event which precedes the Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix at the previous edition back in 2018 driving a vintage 1974 Token RJ02.

However, the driver, who failed to make a podium finish three years ago, will be back at the competition in the same car, this time seeking a different outcome.

“Announcement; Monaco we are back baby! Happy to announce we will be doing Monaco Historic F1 again this year! So excited and grateful to @gpx.historic for trusting in me and giving me the opportunity to compete in this amazing event!

“Once again I’ll be back in the 1974 Token RJ02, which hopefully we can take to the podium this time,” Jefferies said as he took to social media to break the news recently.

The Historic Monaco Grand Prix has existed since 1997 and it’s organised two weeks before the F1 Monaco.

It takes place on the same circuit as the Formula 1 Grand Prix with the fascinating old cars that propose a travel back in time.

Historic Monaco Grand Prix is a biennial spectacle organised by the Automobile Club of Monaco (ACM), which has been growing with each passing edition with a constant marked increase in spectators.

However, last year the event initially scheduled for May 8-10, had to be cancelled due to the outbreak of the global Covid-19 pandemic which brought all sporting activities to a grinding halt.

As part of the Monaco Historic Grand Prix, in 2018 Jefferies was allowed to drive a 1974 Token Formula 1 racing car through the city of Monaco,  an experience which he said was magical.

“This was without a doubt one of the most magical experiences of my career. It was incredible to drive a Formula 1 car through the streets of Monaco, not just any car. The sound of the cars, the glamour and the energy you feel there were just unreal. I was allowed to move a Token from 1974 and I hope to be there again in the future,” Jefferies said in an interview with LSR-Freun.de a few weeks after the event.

Jefferies will race in Race F named after the late three-time world champion Niki Lauda comprising F1 Grand Prix cars 3L from 1973 to 1976.

Race F has two classes which are, cars equipped with a Ford-Cosworth DFV engine and another class made up of cars equipped with other engines.
