Masunda’s brother dies

Alpha Media Holdings Editorial Advisory Board of Trustees chairperson Muchadeyi Masunda’s elder brother Mxolisi Albert Masunda has died.He was 74.Masunda, who had been ill for some time, died yesterday in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.He left Zimbabwe in 1969 to undertake further studies in the United Kingdom before he moved to Canada.“My brother was four years older than me. He left this country in 1969 to undertake further studies in the UK and from there he migrated to Vancouver in the British Columbia (BC) Province of Canada. During his working life, he rendered meritorious service to the provincial health administration in BC,” Masunda told NewsDay.“We had the privilege of being born and brought up in Bulawayo. He distinguished himself in drama at Lozikeyi Primary School and Mthwakazi Boys’ Club in Nguboyenja Township. He used to play the role of King Shaka of the Zulu Kingdom of South Africa. In later life, whenever I wanted to send him into emotional orbit, I would recite to him over the phone, the Zulu war cries which he used to chant with such vim and vigour in the early 1960s,” he added.The late Masunda was born in a family of 11 — six girls and five boys.He is survived by wife Mildred Maidei Masunda and three grown-up children, Lindiwe, Tamirira Andrew and Sekai Lindsay.
