
POLICE in Manicaland and Johhane The Fifth of Africa led by Archbishop commander Andby Makururu have maintained existing relationship after the church donated furniture at Mutare Central Police Station.
Makururu was welcomed at at the police station by Officer Commanding Manicaland Province Commissioner Elizabeth Phiri and Assistant Commissioner Administration Norest Henry Myambo.
Manicaland police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka applauded the church for working with the police.
“We are maintaining existing relationship between Johhane The Fifth of Africa and police in Manicaland, we are happy that they are continuing with their good gesture as we saw today they have even invited us to conduct awareness campaigns in their churches covering various crimes including child marriages, rape, theft among other things and various programmes,” he said.
“During the Covid-19 the church played a key role in providing Covid-19 preventative equipment and they have even painted our buildings.
“Archibishop Makururu have promised to paint our buildings in Manicaland into modern police stations across province and put solars and boreholes,"he added.
“We are hoping that the mutual relationship will continue”.
Makururu a few years ago donated computers and fridges for the police offices.

Makururu said it was important to build cordial relationship with various stakeholders.
The Johhane The Fifth of Africa leader is also a gender advocate who has been working with police to fight gender based violence.
“It is important to build relationship with our stakeholders including the police which is important in maintaining peace in the country,” Makururu said.
“I have been like that (working with stakeholders), we are following President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s mantra that we should not leave no place no one behind,” he said.
Police in Manicaland have been hailed for fighting crime in the province.
