Officials nabbed for stealing wheat

A MINISTRY of Public Service and Social Welfare employee and a Grain Marketing Board (GMB) worker are spending the weekend in remand prison on charges of stealing tonnes of wheat meant for distribution to hungry villagers.

Zivanai Bhunu, a human resources administrator at the Department of Social Welfare in Bindura, Innocent Mundembe, a deport clerk at GMB Bindura and Edwin Mazani, a truck driver, appeared before Bindura magistrate Tinashe Ndokera on Friday.

Prosecutor Carson Kundiona opposed bail stating that the accused persons were likely to abscond trial and interfere with witnesses.

According to state papers on August 25 the trio, allegedly stole 32 tonnes of wheat which were supposed to be distributed among the vulnerable people living in Ward 5, Bindura.

The case was postponed to October 14 for bail ruling.
