A Harare pastor from the AFM Church has accused his 28-year-old daughter of physical and verbal abuse as well damaging household property while under the influence of drugs.

Eliot Madede told the court that Merlisa turns violent whenever she is high on drugs.

“As a father, I am failing to reprimand her because she ends up slapping me,” Madede said whilee shedding tears.

He said Merlisa sometimes brings her boyfriends to his house for sleepovers.

“She takes all kinds of drugs during the day, and at night she breaks household property, singing vulgar songs in front of me,” he submitted.

“I know it’s my duty as a father to control my child, but at this point I am powerless — that is why I am here.”

Merlisa denied the allegations and claimed that her father forces her to attend his church when she prefers clubbing with friends.

“He must treat me like an adult so that I will be able to respect him,” she said.

Magistrate Meenal Narotam ruled in favour of the AMF pastor and granted him a protection order.
