Illegal miner rapes, robs sex worker

The accused, Thulani Zingwena, appeared before magistrate Amos Mbobo who remanded him in custody to August 20.

A machete wielding illegal miner was dragged to Bindura regional court on charges of raping a sex worker.

The accused, Thulani Zingwena, appeared before magistrate Amos Mbobo who remanded him in custody to August 20.

The state led by Clever Nyapfani alleged that on February 13, the accused stormed the complainant's room at Mazowe mine (Jumbo) armed with a machete.

Upon entering  the house he saw the complainant who was in the company if her niece.

The niece and the complainant are both sex workers.

Zingwena ordered the complainant to go outside the room and ordered her to remove all her clothes before raping her.

He  robbed her of US$27.

Zingwena also robbed her niece of US$30 and fled.

A police report was filed leading to his arrest.
