Simbi-Ndhlukula appointed WUA chancellor

WUA noted that Simbi-Ndhlukula was appointed to the role in recognition of her outstanding achievements in business, her community leadership, and her philanthropic work across Zimbabwe and beyond.

Businesswoman Divine Simbi Ndhlukula was on Friday appointed the chancellor of the Women’s University in Africa (WUA) at the 21st anniversary graduation ceremony in Harare.

Simbi-Ndhlukula’s appointment was the major highlight of WUA’s 21st anniversary and graduation ceremony, which was attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development, the university’s board of trustees, members of the university community and invited dignitaries.

The occasion celebrated 21 years of progress described as the university’s “coming of age” – a milestone of maturity, strength, and endurance.

Founded in 2002 by Cynthia Hope Sadza and Fay Chung, WUA was established to expand access to higher education, particularly for women, and to address gender disparity while fostering equality in line with its founding vision.

In her acceptance remarks, Simbi-Ndhlukula reflected on the significance of the moment.

“This is a moment of reflection and gratitude. I am thankful for the warmth and recognition from the Women’s University in Africa community. Twenty one years marks a coming of age, a milestone of maturity, strength, and endurance,” she said.

“The university has created countless memories, made a lasting impact, overcome challenges, and I am honoured to now be part of that journey as Chancellor.”

WUA noted that Simbi-Ndhlukula was appointed to the role in recognition of her outstanding achievements in business, her community leadership, and her philanthropic work across Zimbabwe and beyond.

“As the founder of SECURICO Security Services, she has built one of the country’s most successful enterprises, breaking barriers in a male-dominated industry while creating employment for thousands,” WUA said in a statement.

“Beyond business, she has spearheaded numerous initiatives focused on empowering women, mentoring young leaders, environmental sustainability, education and social development.

“Her track record as a champion for gender equality and women’s empowerment aligns closely with the university’s mandate of reducing gender disparity and fostering equality in higher education.

“Her appointment signals a strengthening of WUA’s mission to inspire future generations of women to lead and thrive in all sectors of society.”
