Norton man sentenced to 14 years in jail for allegedly stealing two motor vehicles at Parirenyatwa Hospital

HARARE magistrate Jesse Kufa yesterday sentenced a Norton man to 14 years in jail for allegedly stealing two motor vehicles at Parirenyatwa Hospital.

Takudzwa Shariwa (26) was found guilty on two counts of theft.

Kufa suspended four years of his sentence.

Prosecutor Ngoni Kaseke proved that on March 19 this year, Kufa stole a Honda Fit vehicle belonging to a medical student which was parked at Parirenyatwa hospital.

The court heard that the convict used the vehicle as a mshika-shika in the city centre.

The complainant was alerted by an unknown caller who came across a WhatsApp message reporting the theft and proceeded to the scene where he recovered the motor vehicle together with the police.

The convict on September 5 also stole another Honda Fit vehicle parked at the hospital belonging to a medical doctor.

The court heard that the complainant with the assistance of her husband tracked the stolen motor vehicle using its fixed mobile tracker. —TREVOR MUTSVAIRO
