A senior assistant intelligence officer appeared at the Harare Magistrates Court yesterday facing charges of illegal possession of cocaine.
Francis Gerald Mugoni (34) was remanded in custody by Harare magistrate Tapiwa Kuhudzai.
The senior intelligence officer was allegedly found with 24, 95 grams of cocaine.
Prosecutors said on October 29 this year at 3pm, CID Drugs and Narcotics received information that the accused was dealing in cocaine at or near Kensington Shopping Centre, Harare.
On October 30, at about 2200 hours, detectives carried out surveillance at the accused's usual hounds near Kensington Shopping Centre.
Detectives spotted the accused disembarking from a black Nissan X-trail motor vehicle at the intersection of Connaught Road and Argyle Roads, Avondale in the capital.
The detectives approached the accused and identified themselves to him by showing him their police identity cards and requested to search him for dangerous drugs. Mugoni ran away from the detectives due west along Argyle Road with detectives in pursuit.
The detectives caught up with him along Kent Avenue, Avondale and upon searching him discovered a transparent plastic sachet containing some white powder suspected to be cocaine.

He was taken to ZRP Harare Central where a field test confirmed that he was in possession of cocaine.
The seized cocaine weighed 24,95 grams with a street value of US$1 320.
