THE trial of former Foreign Affairs minister, Walter Mzembi, on charges of criminal abuse of office is set to start on November 24.
Harare regional magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa last week served Mzembi with state papers before indicting him to the High Court.
He is facing charges of criminal abuse of public funds during his time as Tourism and Hospitality Industry minister.
The court previously ruled that the state managed to prove on a balance of probability that Mzembi wilfully defaulted on his bail conditions .
Prosecutors alleged that Mzembi unlawfully diverted television sets valued at US$2 million, which were procured to establish public viewing fan parks during the 2010 Fifa World Cup in South Africa. The state alleged the television sets were later converted for personal use.
Mzembi is also accused of breaching his bail conditions by failing to surrender his passport by November 19, 2018, and skipping a scheduled court appearance on January 18, 2019.
