A rural Murewa school recently received a major boost after a local bussinessman, Sam Mapingure, donated an assortment of information communication technology (ICT) equipment.

Mapingure,  who hails from Murewa North constituency, handed over 10 laptops and installed a Starlink wifi system at Zhombwe Primary School the school located near the majestic Zhombwe mountain.

The donation was witnessed by Primary and Secondary Education ministry officials, Zanu PF Murewa district leaders and parents.

Mapingure said his generosity was inspired after seeing ICTs bridging the social gap between rural and urban learners.

"E-life has become the-life, and I thought it wise to donate these ICT gadgets to Zhombwe Primary School for the benefit of the learners," Mapingure said.

"Now that the school has WiFi installed, it is good for the learners, especially the Grade 7s, who will need it for their researches and studies.

"We are in support of President Emmerson Mnangagwa's mantra of leaving no one behind hence supporting rural institutions with ICTs."

ICT minister, Tatenda Mavetera, recently said government was working out strategies to improve access to ICTs, digital literacy and mobile phone connectivity as part of a concerted drive to create a digital economy and improve livelihoods by 2030.

Meanwhile, Mapingure pledged to construct a classroom block at Zhombwe Secondary School.

Currently, learners who graduate from Zhombwe Primary School walk   long distances to Magaya Secondary School as there is no secondary school in the area.

"I hear parents are constructing a classroom block at Zhombwe Secondary School, that is commendable. I will not interfere with what they have started so far,” Mapingure said.

"I am going to construct another classroom block so that by June 2026, our learners will not be walking long distances to the Magaya area in search of secondary education.”

Murewa is one of the districts in Mashonaland East Province with a massive shortage of secondary schools.
