Four Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (Zesa) employees based at the Karoi depot have been arrested in connection with the alleged theft of electrical materials valued at over US$28000.

The suspects are Christen Mutabvure, a chief security officer, Emma Kamba, a former customer care clerk, Beloved Mudiwa, a stores clerk and Blessing Guramatunhu, a lead artisan.

According to investigations, the arrests followed a series of incidents in which electrical cables booked from Zesa central stores and Chinhoyi stores allegedly failed to reach the Karoi depot between November and December 2025.

Police said on November 27, 2025, Kamba and a hired truck driver identified as Maponga were dispatched to Zesa central stores to collect a drum of 100mm² HDA conductor and 50 metres of 185mm² cable.

However, the chief security officer who had authorised the collection reportedly arrived at central stores, took possession of the 185mm² cable using a Zesa vehicle, and instructed the hired truck to carry only the conductor drum.

After leaving central stores, the chief security officer allegedly parked along the roadside in Southerton, where unknown individuals offloaded the drum.

The hired truck then proceeded to Karoi empty.

A similar incident allegedly occurred on December 5, 2025, when the same team was sent to collect another drum of 100mm² HDA conductor, which was again offloaded  before going to Karoi. On December 16, 2025, stores clerk Beloved Mudiwa was allegedly instructed by the chief security to collect 24 metres of 100mm² HDA conductor from Chinhoyi Stores using the CSO’s vehicle. Although the cable was loaded, it never reached Karoi stores. On December 17, 2025, Mudiwa reported the matter to the Zesa loss control department, alleging he was being pressured to acknowledge receipt of materials he had not physically seen.

The case was recorded under RRB number 6366625 at Karoi Central Police Station. The total value of the missing materials is estimated at US$28,142.
