Caps United salvages point in Kariba

Harare giants CAPS United ended what has been an eventful week for them with a goalless draw in a tightly contested league match against ZPC Kariba at Nyamhunga Stadium yesterday.

The point lifted Makepekepe from 16th to 15th on the log standings with  eight points from 10 matches.

CAPS United were coming from a 2 - 1 defeat at home to FC Platinum in the mid-week game and are desperate to come out of the relegation Zoe amid reports that this could be under fire coach Lloyd Chitembwe's last game in charge.

Assistant coach, Tonderai Marume felt they missed some good chances in the game.

"We had some good moments in the first half, but we couldn't convert our chances into goals. We'll review the game and work on our finishing to make sure we capitalise on our opportunities in the next match," he said.

ZPC Kariba coach Newton Chitewe was pleased with the team's effort having traveled to Triangle during the mid week.

"We were pleased with the team's effort and determination, but unfortunately, we couldn't capitalise on our chances. Fatigue from our midweek match was a factor, but we'll regroup and prepare for the next game," he said.

The game was marked by a series of near-misses and tense moments, with both teams creating scoring opportunities but failing to capitalise.

ZPC Kariba are now seventh on the log standings with 14 points from 10 matches.

An interesting day saw just three goals scored across the five matches with three of them ending in goalless draws.

Bulawayo giants Highlanders were the biggest winners after claiming a 2 - 0 on the road over struggling Yadah FC at The Heart Stadium.

Reason Sibanda scored a goal in each half to ensure Bosso win the the game and move into third place on the log standings.

Bosso took the lead as early as the fourth minutes with Sibanda doubling the scores for the day with a bout 20 minutes left of play.

It was the player's sixth goal of the season.

In Gweru, TelOne needed a stoppage time penalty to beat Bikita Minerals at Ascot Stadium.

The league's top scorer Washington Navaya, converted the spot kick.

The Platinum derby petered out into a goalless draw, FC Platinum failing to build on their big 2 - 1 win over CAPS United on Wednesday.

Ngezi Platinum Stars were coming from a tough  home defeat to Yadah and would have been happy to come out of Mandava with a point.

Defending champions Simba Bhora were also held to a nil nil  draw by visiting GreenFuel.
