Dynamos’ nightmare season continued yesterday as they slumped to a disheartening 2-0 defeat against Herentals College at Rufaro Stadium, further entrenching their position in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League’s relegation zone.

The Glamour Boys, once a dominant force in Zimbabwean football, now find themselves in a precarious 17th position with a meagre 15 points from 18 games, with only basement side Kwekwe United faring worse.

The loss at the hands of Herentals marked another low point for Dynamos, who conceded midway through the first half when Tino Benza expertly diverted a free-kick delivery from Prince Chama.

The dagger was twisted further in the 55th minute with an unfortunate own-goal by captain Shadreck Nyahwa, sealing yet another defeat for the struggling giants.

Dynamos coach, Saul Chaminuka, acknowledged the team's defensive frailties after the match.

“I think it's one game that we conceded easy goals,” he said. “Call them mistakes, call them anything. But that's the game of football for you, right? And we go back, we are going to prepare again and we keep on fighting."

Chaminuka also highlighted the team's ongoing struggles in front of goal, despite creating opportunities.

“Of course we saw chances coming early in the first half where the intention was shown,” he said.

“But it wasn't exerted to the fullest. We need to be convincing in terms of our completion of our tasks. We play, we get there.

“But at the end of the day, we have nothing to show. And we have to keep on working.

“We have done a lot of work. We will continue to do work that is directed to finishing and scoring goals. The game of football is about goals.”

Herentals FC coach Paul Benza expressed his satisfaction with his team's performance, particularly their ability to find the back of the net after a barren spell.

“Firstly, we were going for five games without scoring even a single goal,” Benza said.

“And we knew that coming into today's game and playing again at Rufaro, we were supposed to score.

“And at first, I introduced the three strikers. And it went very well because we managed to get that goal. And then in the second half, we managed to get another goal.”

Looking ahead, Benza outlined Herentals' ambitions for the second half of the season.

“I'm happy with the boys. And looking at the turn of the second half of the season, where you want to be as a team,” he said.

“We’re going to add two or three players at the moment. Because there are some departments that we feel that we need some depth.

“And our goal, as we said earlier on, is that we try to finish in the top four. If we fail, then we'll have failed to meet our targets because last year we finished fifth.

“So we are going to fight very hard to try and finish in the top four."
