The Tawanda Marwizi Foundation is set to stage a major sports tournament in Buhera South aimed at unearthing hidden talent and fighting drug abuse among rural youths.
Eight wards have confirmed participation in the event, which will feature both soccer and netball under the theme Unlocking Rural Sport Talent.
Foundation founder, Tawanda Marwizi, said the goal was to give rural athletes a platform to catch the eye of national selectors.
“Rural talent is often overlooked,” Marwizi said.
“We have schools like Chabata High dominating national schools’ netball tournaments, but none of their players have ever been called up for local or national teams. This event will change that.”
The tournament, which will be graced by Premier Soccer League players, top netball stars, and executives from national sports associations such as Zifa, will also be used as a campaign against drug and substance abuse.
“Drug and substance abuse is a menace here,” Marwizi said. “We want to show young people there are better paths — and sport is one of them.”
The day will end with a free music gala featuring top Zimbabwean artists, making it both a sporting and cultural celebration.

Marwizi, whose foundation also assists underprivileged community members, hopes to make the tournament an annual event.
While some businesspeople have pledged sponsorship, he says more financial support is needed.
“The Marwizi Foundation is still in its infancy,” he said. “But we are determined to grow and expand our philanthropic work across Buhera and Manicaland Province.”
