ZPC Kariba dumps Chicken Inn out of Chibuku Super Cup

Chicken Inn head coach, Joey Antipas, expressed his disappointment but acknowledged the nature of cup competitions.

Chicken Inn's journey in the Chibuku Super Cup came to a dramatic end after they were defeated 6-5 on penalties by ZPC Kariba at Nyamhunga Stadium yesterday.

The rescheduled first round match had finished goalless after 90 minutes, with both teams failing to find the back of the net in a tightly contested affair.

From the start, the game was evenly balanced, with both sides sharing possession and creating chances.

ZPC Kariba's Munashe Kamwendo had an early shot that went wide, but it was Chicken Inn who looked more threatening in the opening minutes.

The team's left winger, Lincoln Mangaira, was a constant menace, creating several scoring opportunities. However, ZPC Kariba's defence, although initially under pressure, managed to hold firm.

Chicken Inn's Brian Muza was another player who caused problems for the ZPC Kariba defense, forcing a fantastic save from goalkeeper Future Sibanda. Despite Chicken Inn's pressure, Sibanda was in top form, making a series of crucial saves to keep his team in the game.

As the match progressed, ZPC Kariba began to assert more control, with Collin Muleya taking charge in the midfield and probing the Chicken Inn defense. Chicken Inn's Leeroy Saungweme had a shot on goal, but once again, Sibanda was there to make the save.

With neither team able to find a breakthrough, the match proceeded to a penalty shootout. In the end, ZPC Kariba held their nerve to secure a 6-5 victory and advance to the next round.

After the match, ZPC Kariba head coach, Newman Chitewe, praised his team's performance.

"I thank my boys for playing well, but I want to give credit to Chicken Inn for standing their ground in this match," Chitewe said. "It is our day, and we are happy that we proceed to the next round of the cup."

Chicken Inn head coach, Joey Antipas, expressed his disappointment but acknowledged the nature of cup competitions.

"It was a tight game, and we controlled the position, but unfortunately, we could not break the deadlock," Antipas said. "But in a cup game, anything can happen."
