Hokima Cricket Academy founder honoured with Icon of Africa Award

Marondera-based cricket academy Hokima Cricket Academy presence on the international stage continues to get recognition as its founder has been selected to be a recipient of an honourary award in the first edition of the Icons of Africa Awards.

The Icons of Africa Awards, are a Pan African celebration of leaders, innovators and voices shaping the African story and driving continental transformation.

Having in the past received numerous accolades for championing community development through sport while it is also a driver in social change empowering children from underprivileged backgrounds its founder Kudzai Mutiti has been selected to be recipient of the Icons of Africa Awards to be held in December in Sandton, South Africa.

Mutiti  described the honourary award from Icons of Africa Awards as an inspiring and humbling.

“Being selected to receive an honorary award at the Iron of Africa Awards is both humbling and profoundly inspiring,” he said.

“To be recognised among such extraordinary individuals at the Iron of Africa Awards is a reminder of Africa’s endless potential — a continent rich in talent, resilience, and purpose.

“It motivates me to continue pushing boundaries, building opportunities, and uplifting others through collaboration and dedication.

“I am deeply grateful to the Iron of Africa Awards committee for this acknowledgment, and I look forward to celebrating this moment with everyone who has been part of this journey — especially my colleagues, players, and partners at Hokima Cricket Academy.”

Mutiti added that the recognition that the academy continues to receive is due to the hard work and dedication of the team.

“This recognition means a great deal to me — not only as a personal milestone, but as a reflection of the collective effort and dedication of so many remarkable individuals.

“Nothing I have achieved has been in isolation; every step of the journey has been shaped by teamwork, mentorship, and shared vision,” he said.

Hokima Cricket Academy is an academy which is dedicated to transforming young talent into skilled athletes and well-rounded individuals, through first-class coaching, professional guidance, and a commitment to lifelong values inspiring champions both on and off the field.

“In particular, I want to highlight the incredible team at Hokima Cricket Academy,” he said.

“Their commitment, passion, and tireless work continue to inspire me every day.

“Together, we’ve built more than just an academy — we’ve created a space that nurtures young talent, instills discipline and sportsmanship, and empowers future leaders both on and off the field.

“This award is as much theirs as it is mine.”
