YAFM has revealed plans to make the Nedbank Tour de Great Dyke a permanent feature on the Cycling Zimbabwe local calendar, with hopes of making it a qualifying event for regional and international competitions.

The event, which is mainly a charity showcase, will feature an Elite Competitive Race on the last lap to Mimosa, Zvishavane this morning.

Cycling Zimbabwe technical delegate Mennard Chekayi confirmed the developments, stating that the Tour aligns with Cycling Zimbabwe's efforts to promote cycling as a secure and enjoyable activity for all persons.

"Our collective target is to establish the Tour De Great Dyke as the national and regional flagship cycling event, showcasing the beauty of Zimbabwe, promoting wellness, and serving as a launchpad for our future Olympic and World Championship stars," Chekayi said.

The event, which kicked off at Zimplats Selous Metallurgical Complex last Thursday passed through several towns, including Chegutu, Kadoma, Kwekwe, Gweru, and Shurugwi (Valterra Platinum formerly Unki Mine) ending at Mimosa in Zvishavane today.

Chekayi emphasised that CZ was committed to fostering a strong cycling culture, from grassroots participation to the elite level, with the ultimate goal of seeing the Zimbabwean flag flying high on the global stage.

Nedbank senior brand and marketing manager Joel Gombera expressed pride in supporting the event, stating that it reflects the bank's commitment to sustainable partnerships and its belief in the power of sport to inspire and drive positive change.

"Our presence here reflects our commitment as money experts who do good to sustainable partnerships — with industry, with government, and most importantly, with the people,” Gombera said.

“We believe in the power of sport to inspire, to connect, and to drive positive change.”
