Chilmund wins Harare Shooting Club 2025 tourney

Horizon Shooting Club (HSC) chairperson, Sheldyn Dombo, said she was excited by the turnout.

Chilmund Chemicals yesterday scooped this year's shooting competition at the Cleveland range in Harare after a tough contest.

The competition involved 15 teams from different corporate companies, including RBZ and Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals, who occupied the second and third place, respectively.

The Horizon Shooting Club hosted a firearms shooting competition featuring pistol for ordinary and tactical shooting, SKS rifle for long range 75 metres, and clay trap using shotguns.

Horizon Shooting Club (HSC) chairperson, Sheldyn Dombo, said she was excited by the turnout.

"Last year we had six teams; this year we have 15 different teams, so there is growth," Dombo said.

The Horizon Shooting Club hosted the competition under the theme, "Shooting as a sport, diversification of perspective."

HSC sees shooting as a sport and is eager to introduce it nationwide.

"There's a stigma around shooting; most people see shooting as something, but it is a sport. It's a world-class sport, an Olympic sport, and we're trying to introduce that," Dombo added.

The competition is developmental for the shooting skills within the security sector.

"So we do have individual competitions, but with corporates, it's much easier because they have more people who are willing to come,” Dombo said.

“Also, most of them see it as a chance to test internal security. Some companies have shooting clubs; their shooting clubs also come here.”

The participants were shooting from a distance of about three metres to 15 metres.

Assan Gumbo from POSB said the competition helped premise protectors to react accordingly in times of danger.

"The competition helps us to be well-versed with guns since we use weapons to protect premises," Gumbo said.

He highlighted that practice makes perfect, and the more they practice, the more experienced they become.

"It will be a great advantage to take this competition as a sport because the more we practice, the more we understand the weapons we use, and gaining experience and winning is something gratifying," Gumbo added.
