Top-flight football is officially returning to the heart of Zimbabwe.
Newly-promoted Hardrock FC is set to quench Kwekwe’s 16-year thirst for Premier Soccer League (PSL) action in March 2026 with a high-profile debut against defending champions Scottland FC.
The fixture is more than just a season opener; it marks the grand unveiling of the Chahwanda Stadium.

Located roughly eight kilometers from the central business district, the state-of-the-art, 15,000-seater facility is expected to become the new crown jewel of Midlands football.
While Kwekwe United competed in the PSL during the 2025 season, local fans remained starved of home games.
Due to the dilapidated state of the historic Baghdad Stadium, Kwekwe United was forced to adopt Gweru’s Ascot Stadium as their temporary home.
The last time a PSL match was actually hosted within Kwekwe city limits was in 2009, featuring the now-defunct Lancashire Steel.

"We have had Kwekwe United in the PSL, but they didn't really play in the city," said Hardrock FC official Absolom Mwenda.
"This is the first time in 16 years that a PSL match will be held in Kwekwe. We are excited; this brings massive attention back to our city."
Led by veteran coach Kelvin Kaindu, Hardrock FC earned their promotion after a grueling battle to clinch the Central Region Division One title ahead of Sheasham.
The club has reportedly been "beefing up" their squad with high-profile signings to compete with the league's elite.
The opening match against Scottland FC is being described by many as a symbolic "shift in power" between the league’s wealthiest emerging clubs.
Despite the daunting task of facing the champions, Mwenda believes the timing is perfect.
Mwenda admitted that facing the title holders was initially intimidating but has since become a source of motivation.
"To be honest, playing Scottland was my worst nightmare before it actually happened," Mwenda said.
"But as it sank in, I realised playing them first is actually okay. They have a massive fan base and a lot of buzz. It puts us in the spotlight and shows everyone what we are trying to achieve here."
While the "moneybags" label follows them, the club remains grounded regarding their first season.
"We want to provide entertainment, but most importantly, we need to adapt. We are taking baby steps with the primary goal of survival," Mwenda added.
