Msendami: Warriors star lives his Pirates dream

Msendami, a product of the prestigious Highlanders FC academy in Bulawayo, has enjoyed a meteoric rise through the ranks of southern African football.

SOUTH African football giants Orlando Pirates officially completed the marquee signing of Zimbabwean international winger Daniel Msendami (pictured) last week.

The 24-year-old joined the Buccaneers from Marumo Gallants on a permanent transfer, a move that followed months of intense speculation and a standout performance on the continental stage.

Msendami, a product of the prestigious Highlanders FC academy in Bulawayo, has enjoyed a meteoric rise through the ranks of southern African football.

After a successful stint in Botswana with Jwaneng Galaxy, he transitioned to the South African top flight with Marumo Gallants.

His explosive pace and clinical directness earned him a spot in the Zimbabwe national team for the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon).

Despite the Warriors' group-stage exit, Msendami’s individual displays — most notably against Egypt and South Africa — cemented his reputation as one of the most dangerous wide players in the region.

Speaking to the Orlando Pirates media department following his unveiling, Msendami was visibly moved by the significance of the move.

"My name is Daniel Msendami. I am a winger for Orlando Pirates," he introduced himself proudly.

"The way I started my career it’s a long time ago, but the start was very tough; I had to push very hard to be here.

“The type of player I am is that I am very direct. I am a winger who is very direct and always thinking of going forward when I get the ball."

Joining one of the continent's most decorated clubs is a milestone Msendami does not take lightly.

"Joining Orlando Pirates for me is like a dream come true because it's one of the biggest teams in Africa and I am happy to be here,” he said.

“ I am looking forward to delivering and scoring goals to help the team win matches.

“To join Orlando Pirates knowing that they have a big squad of talented players is a big motivation for me. I want to compete and become one of the best players in the team."

For Msendami, the move is also about winning over the massive Pirates fan base.

"I am very happy to join a team with a lot of supporters and I am looking forward to making them happy, make them believe in me and to see that I am adding value to the team."

Msendami became  the 13th Zimbabwean to sign for the Soweto giants, joining an elite list of compatriots who have donned the famous black and white.

This lineage includes pioneers like Ephraim Chahwanda and Innocent Chikoya, as well as modern fan favourites like Tendai Ndoro, Marshall Munetsi, and Terrence Dzvukamanja.

With the 2025/26 campaign in full swing, Msendami arrived having already made 16 appearances for Gallants this season.

His readiness and familiarity with the league make him a crucial addition to the Pirates' attacking arsenal as they look to secure silverware.
