Zimbabwe face England in crucial World Cup tie

Head coach Elton Chigumbura is confident in his team's abilities, despite Zimbabwe's opening match being abandoned due to rain.

ZIMBABWE Under-19 cricket team is gearing up for a high-stakes Group C encounter against log leaders England at Takashinga Cricket Club in Highfield this morning.

The match promises to be an exhilarating contest, with England looking to put one foot in the next round while Zimbabwe wants to topple the British from the top of the table.

Head coach Elton Chigumbura is confident in his team's abilities, despite Zimbabwe's opening match being abandoned due to rain.

"We're ready for a tough encounter against England. We've been preparing well, and the team is in good spirits," Chigumbura told Standard Sport.

Zimbabwe shared a point with Scotland in their opening match, which was abandoned without a ball being bowled. England, on the other hand, got off to a winning start, beating Pakistan in their opener.

Chigumbura is taking things one game at a time, not putting the cart before the horse.

"We know England is a strong team, but we've got our own strengths. We'll focus on our game plan and give it our all," he said.

The Zimbabwean coach also highlighted the team's unity and mood on the camp.

"We're a cohesive unit, and everyone is pulling in the same direction. We're excited to take on England and see how far we can go in the tournament."

However, the locals will need to bring their A-game to take down England, who are currently topping Group C. But Chigumbura is optimistic about his team's chances.

"We've got talented players, and I'm confident they'll rise to the occasion. We're looking forward to a great contest," added the former Zimbabwe captain.
