Athletic competitions have once again proven to be a vital platform for identifying and nurturing talents among learners in Zimbabwe.
The recent schools athletics events are bringing together students from various schools, providing an opportunity for them to showcase their skills and abilities on the track and field.
The events were a resounding success, with many learners impressing spectators and coaches alike with their raw talent and dedication to their craft.
Jameson High School last Friday played host to the Sanyati District National Association of Secondary Heads (Nash) Competitions, bringing together six clusters from across the district to compete in track and field events on Friday.
The event showcased the talents of young athletes, with many displaying impressive skills and abilities that hinted at a bright future in athletics.
The competitions were a testament to the district's rich athletic talent, and it was clear that Sanyati District has a wealth of young athletes with potential to represent Zimbabwe on the international stage.
Athletes from the six clusters converged at Jameson High School, competing in various track and field events, including 100m, 200m, 400m, 3000m, and relays, as well as field events such as discus, high jump, shot put, javelin, and triple jump.

The clusters also competed in Chess, with participants displaying strategic thinking and mental toughness.

Sanyati District Nash Ccairperson Admire Mufiri expressed satisfaction with the cluster performances, noting that the district was set to have a strong team for the upcoming competitions in March.
"I am pleased with the performances from all the clusters. It is clear that we have talented young athletes in Sanyati District, and with continued support and development, they have the potential to represent Zimbabwe at the national level and beyond," said Mufiri.
In an interview with The Sports Hub, Nash Sanyati District vice chairperson Flencon Hove, who is in charge of all the disciplines, said he was satisfied by the level of the competition shown by the learners.
"The level of competition was high, and we are confident that we have built a strong District team that is going to break records when we meet other districts at Chemukute High in Kadoma in March this year," said Hove.
Some of the athletes who won either gold or silver during last year's National Competitions are expected to shine again this year. They include Kudakwashe Dhembeko "Tsaona" who runs 1 500m and 800m in under 20, Natasha Shiri who is making waves in 200m and 400m, Vanessa Musiyakuwa 1500m and 3000m, and Loveness Maingahama 200m. All were confident of making it to the Nationals and also to represent Zimbabwe this year.

"I am feeling great, I have been training hard and I'm ready to take on the best in the country," said Kudakwashe " Tsaona" Dhembeko. "My goal is to win gold at the Nationals and make it to the international stage," he said
"I have been working on my speed and endurance, and I am confident that I will make it to the podium," said Natasha Shiri. "Representing Zimbabwe would be a dream come true."
