Simba Bhora . . . . . . . . (0) 1
Caps United . . . . . . . . (1) 1
TEENAGE sensation Cole Tsamba scored a stunning goal deep in additional time to rescue a point for Simba Bhora against CAPS United in a thrilling Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match that was heavily marred by controversial officiating at Wadzanai Stadium yesterday.
The 17-year-old’s 92nd-minute rocket from an acute angle canceled out Dominic Njaliwa’s spectacular first-half bicycle kick.
Yet, long after the dust settles on Tsamba's late heroics, the post-match post-mortem will centre on a chaotic refereeing decision that completely derailed the match.
The drama ignited in the 15th minute when referee Nelson Meke pointed to the penalty spot, rightfully punishing CAPS United goalkeeper Wallace Magalane for a challenge on Petrus Simaneka.
Television replays later confirmed it was a textbook foul.

However, what followed was pure theatre.
Hounded and swarmed by furious CAPS United players, Meke cracked under the pressure.
In a bizarre twist that left the stadium stunned, he completely reversed his decision and restarted play with a drop ball.
Suddenly, it was Simba Bhora’s turn to explode in fury.
The home technical bench stormed the touchline, but Meke stood obstinately by his phantom U-turn.
To rub salt into Simba Bhora's compounding wounds, the football gods dealt them a cruel blow just 15 minutes later.
Still visibly rattled by the refereeing injustice, the hosts' defence fell asleep, ball-watching as Njaliwa was allowed to control the ball before launching himself into the air to acrobatically fire the Green Machine into the lead.
Having stolen the advantage, CAPS United immediately retreated into a defensive shell.
They parked the bus, daring Simba Bhora to break them down.
For the remainder of the match, the game was played almost exclusively in the visitors' half, but the hosts found themselves banging their heads against a green wall, struggling to pierce the stubborn low block.
CAPS United looked to kill off the game on the counter-attack, and they very nearly did.
Junior Banisi flashed a roaring effort just over the bar, before Tinotenda Meke saw his goal-bound shot spectacularly turned away by the fingertip saves of Simba Bhora goalkeeper First Gandisani.
At the other end, the hosts were agonizingly denied in the 81st minute when Nomore Tsabora’s goal-bound strike was miraculously cleared off the line by a backtracking CAPS defender.
With time evaporating and desperation mounting, Simba Bhora coach Mandla Mpofu threw his final roll of the dice, unleashing the teenager Tsamba with just five minutes of regulation time left on the clock.
It proved to be a masterstroke decision. The prodigy needed just seven minutes to etch his name into club folklore. Picking up the ball out wide, the teenager bamboozled his marker with a drop of the shoulder before unleashing an angled drive that flew past Magalane, torching wild, uninhibited celebrations in the stands.
It was a goal that felt like pure poetic justice.
The late equalizer proved catastrophic for CAPS United, who surrendered their crown at the top of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League table, dropping to second place on goal difference with 27 points.
Simba Bhora remains steady in fifth with 20 points from 13 games.
After the match, a proud Mpofu praised his charges for refusing to let the officiating break their spirits.
Mpofu also wisely chose to keep his thoughts on the referee to himself.
On the opposing bench, CAPS United coach Takesure Chiragwi cut a dejected figure, blaming a lack of game management and a grueling schedule for their late collapse.
