Letter to my people: Why Gushungo was a better leader

HH was the only head of state, who attended Madam Suluhu’s inauguration

My Dear People

Zimbabwe is three years away from that ritual the owners of this country call an election, but the ruining party has started rolling out rallies even during the week.

They claim that the purpose of the rallies is to explain that controversial resolution, which was passed at the conference in Mutare last month to extend Ngwena’s stay in office by two years.

Instead of working for the people they claim voted for them overwhelmingly in 2023, they are spending all their time addressing useless rallies and making endless promises.

This explains why the ruining party did not bother about a manifesto in the last elections. They have no plan for the people and the country. All they think about is eating and retaining power.

I was reminded of the commitments that Ngwena made when he came into power after that cowardly coup that removed Gushungo from office.

He claimed that he was ushering in a new kind of democracy in Zimbabwe.

You now all know that was far from the truth because Zimbabwe has become a one party state after the main opposition party was destroyed through a combination of bribes and repression.

As I pen this letter, a massive campaign is being rolled out to sell a tenderprenuer as the country’s next leader and to prepare the ground work for the mutilation of the constitution to guarantee Ngwena two more years in power.

These are just a few of the billion reasons why Gushungo was a far much better leader. You were fooled to believe that the army tanks were being rolled out to pave the way for a leader with people at heart.

Even the Generari, who led that coup, is regretting facilitating the rise of this crop of leaders that was foisted on us. He has been calling them out for their corruption and betrayal of the ideals of the liberation struggle.

For that they want to throw him out and pave the way for people who cannot explain how they accumulated their wealth.

After earning a reputation of being among a new breed of African leaders who do not look the other way when their counterparts steal elections, HH recently drew ridicule from Zambians and others on the continent for endorsing the sham Tanzanian election.

HH was the only head of state, who attended Madam Suluhu’s inauguration after the mass killings of protesters, who were not happy about the way the election was run.

The African Union and Sadc, who usually find it difficult to call out leaders who steal elections,   were equivocal that those elections did not pass the democracy test yet HH was there trying to lecture Tanzanians on how to respond to the brazen theft.

It did not come as a surprise to see him fleeing in Chingola as an angry mob was stoning him. I was also not surprised either to see him rolling out the red carpet for Wicknell Chivayo.

He allegedly discussed renewable energy with the tenderpreneur, who is yet to deliver the 100 MW Gwanda solar plant after being awarded the tender by Zesa a decade ago.

On Friday, HH made his maiden visit to Zimbabwe after he stayed away from Ngwena’s inauguration following our own sham election.

He was applauded for being a principled leader, but it seems he has adopted the maxim that if you can’t beat them you join them.

The visit made his 2023 stance hollow because Zimbabwe has degenerated into a full-blown dictatorship with no opposition or civil society to talk about.

Just yesterday, riot police descended on Tendai Biti’s offices in Harare because some snitch had allegedly told them there would be a gathering of the Constitution Defence Forum, which the former Finance minister leads.

Biti, who was in Chiredzi, was quoted describing the ZRP displaying “psychotic paranoia.”  I would be less charitable and add that this is exactly how dictatorships behave.

They are afraid of the people and will use law enforcement agents to stifle all freedoms, including freedom of assembly and association.

Timothy Chiminya, who styled himself as King Munhumutapa, has been jailed for an effective eight months after a Harare magistrate convicted him of undermining Ngwena’s authority.

Prosecutors accused Chiminya of appointing himself King Munhumutapa  and attempting to remove and appoint traditional leaders across the country between 2019 and December last year.

At some point he claimed to have replaced the duly recognised Chief Seke and also sought to remove Chief Nyakunhuwa in favour of a candidate of his choice. Kikikikikiki

I found the case amusing at many levels, but I can not say much at this stage .

Zimbabweans seem to have a very short memory and the ruining party has learnt how to exploit this weakness.

The whole of last week, you were made to debate the visit by Aliko Dangote and the allegations that his US$1 billion investment will be a game changer for Zimbabwe.

Have you all forgotten about all those mega deals that your owners signed soon after the power grab, including with Nkosikhona Holdings? Has any of those so-called mega deals changed your life in any way?
