Shumba, Ngwazi to light up Buhera sports gala

Blessing Shumba and Mark Ngwazi are set to headline a music gala that will wrap up the inaugural Tawanda Marwizi Sports Tournament in Buhera South on August 30.

Award-winning musicians Blessing Shumba and Mark Ngwazi are set to headline a music gala that will wrap up the inaugural Tawanda Marwizi Sports Tournament in Buhera South on August 30.

The star-studded event, which will also feature dancehall chanter Culture Love and Chipinge-based gospel musician Cloris Machuwaire, will take place at Muzokomba High School from 8am to 6pm, with free admission for all.

The gala follows a day of soccer and netball matches involving eight wards from the area, all competing under the tournament’s theme “Unlocking Rural Sport Talent.”

Organised by the Tawanda Marwizi Foundation, the combined sports and cultural showcase is part of a broader campaign to curb drug and substance abuse among youths through positive engagement in sport and the arts.

Shumba, known for his powerful gospel anthems, promised “a spiritually uplifting and energetic performance” that will keep the crowd on its feet.

Ngwazi, riding high on his chart-topping hits, declared that Buhera should “brace for fireworks.”

“This is not just about entertainment; it’s about giving our young people a platform to shine and steering them towards a better path,” said Tawanda Marwizi, founder of the tournament.

“We want this to be an annual event that grows bigger every year.”

The day will also feature free medical check-ups and multiple prizes for outstanding teams and individuals.

With the blend of sport, music, and community health, organisers are confident the event will become a fixture on Buhera’s social calendar.

Local music groups are also expected to perform on the day.
