Qounfuzed slams Zim music awards, alleges corruption

In a recent interview with Earground TV, the UK-based artist claimed that awards organisers are biased and that winners are often predetermined.

Musician Qounfuzed has publicly criticised local music awards, alleging that corruption and unfair practices are widespread.

In a recent interview with Earground TV, the UK-based artist claimed that awards organisers are biased and that winners are often predetermined.

"Awards in Zimbabwe are not done in a fair manner. Organisers already have their people, those people pay," he stated. He added that he believes organisers lack a true understanding of the music industry, and that the public's frequent outcry over awards results is a sign of this corruption.

This isn't the first time Qounfuzed has voiced his frustration. He was notably snubbed by the National Arts Merit Awards in 2023, despite having a successful year with hit songs like Kamunamato kekubhawa and Shisha.

Following these experiences, he has declared that he will no longer submit his music for awards unless the system undergoes a significant change.

Meanwhile, after eight years in the United Kingdom, Qounfuzed has announced his return to the local music scene with a nationwide tour. The tour has already made stops in Chiredzi, Chivhu, Dzivarasekwa, and Ruwa, and is set to continue across the country.

Upcoming tour dates include performances in Kadoma, Gweru, Kwekwe, Marondera, and Masvingo.

The artist is also planning to add shows in Victoria Falls, Mutare, Chinhoyi, and Bulawayo.

Qounfuzed is being joined on the tour by his longtime friend and fellow musician, Platnum Prince, who has also been away from the Zimbabwean music scene for an extended period.
