Thousands of people thronged Mandizha Plaza in Chikadzi village last Saturday night as the entertainment venue celebrated its first anniversary with a major music extravaganza featuring some of Zimbabwe’s popular artistes.
Held under the banner Bindura Shutdown, the celebrations featured performances by King of Rhumba Juntal, Andy Muridzo, Tocky Vibes and Jah Master, among others.
The event marked a year since the establishment of the plaza and underscored its growing role as an entertainment, employment and community hub in Bindura.
Speaking on the sidelines of the celebrations, plaza owner Tafadzwa Mandizha said he was encouraged by the growth of the business, particularly its contribution to employment in the local community.
“We are very happy with our business here in Chikadzi Village, Bindura, as we have doubled our employees since last year,” Mandizha said.
He said the growth of the business was part of his commitment to developing his home community in line with the Government’s development philosophy, “Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo.”“As Mandizha, we are following President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s vision of development, ‘Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo’.
As a local from Bindura, I am adding value to my community,” he said.
Since opening, Mandizha Plaza has established itself as a destination for live entertainment, hosting a series of music events that have drawn audiences from Bindura and surrounding areas.

Saturday night’s show was the third major music event staged at the venue since its establishment. Previous performers have included Sulumani Chimbetu, Leonard Zhakata, Jah Signal and DJ Phatchild, among others.
For local residents, the events have created opportunities to enjoy performances by leading Zimbabwean musicians within their own community, with some of the shows being offered free of charge.
Beyond entertainment, the growing profile of the plaza has stimulated economic activity while creating employment opportunities for people in the surrounding community.
Mandizha has also extended his community involvement beyond his business operations through a number of charitable initiatives.
He has provided buses to assist Apostolic Faith Mission congregations travelling to Masvingo for the church’s annual Rufaro celebrations.
He is also supporting several underprivileged children in the area by paying their school fees, further broadening his contribution to the community.
The first anniversary celebrations therefore served as both a milestone for the business and a reflection of its expanding role in Bindura as an employer, entertainment centre and community development partner.
