The legacy of sungura legend Madzibaba Nicholas Zakaria continues to resonate beyond his passing, with confirmation that the iconic musician was still creating music right up to his final days.
Before his death, Zakaria had returned to the studio, working closely with producer Master Zhoe on what would become their second collaboration titled Vimbo.
The upcoming release follows their first joint effort, Gwenyambira, a song that struck a deep chord with Zimbabweans during the Covid-19 era and became an anthem of resilience, prayer and hope.
Vimbo, whose title speaks to faith and spiritual trust, is expected to carry the signature Zakaria sound — rich sungura rhythms layered with deep spiritual messaging that defined his decades-long career.
“Madzibaba Nicholas Zakaria's music lives on! Before his passing, he was in the studio with Master Zhoe working on their second collaboration, Vimbo. Their first song together was Gwenyambira, a Covid-era anthem,” said Madzibaba's son Lazarus Zakaria.
He said Vimbo will be released soon.
Those close to the project say the track stands as a powerful reminder of the artist’s unwavering commitment to music and ministry.
Fans have since taken to social media to celebrate Zakaria’s life and contribution to Zimbabwean music, sharing memories, lyrics and personal moments tied to his songs.
