Nyangatayani Dance Group tours Kanyemba

Sekuru Nyangatayani Dance Group

The newly formed Sekuru Nyangatayani Dance Group lit up Kanyemba Border Post after delivering an electrifying performance at a New Year’s gig that brought together artistes and revellers from Zimbabwe, Zambia and Mozambique.

The show, held at Mbodza Corner Store, saw the dance group share the stage with Zambian musician Gas G and Zimbabwean entertainer Lloyd “Matumbu” Jack, drawing a cross-border crowd that gathered to celebrate the start of the year through music and dance.

Glendale-based traditional healer Sekuru Nyangatayani, who was the guest of honour, added a philanthropic touch to the event by dishing out cash to all the performing artistes.

“I brought a dance group to spice up the show, and as usual I am giving every participating artiste cash as a way of appreciating them. This is a very unique show since it has brought three nationalities together,” Nyangatayani said.

Zambian artiste Gas G, who has produced a six-track album titled Sekuru Nyangatayani the Great, thrilled the audience by performing all the songs, backed by the Nyangatayani dance group — a performance that received overwhelming applause.

The event host, Kanyemba-based businessman James Maplan, expressed delight after the show recorded a full house.

“This is a new year indeed. I never thought Sekuru Nyangatayani would come all the way from Glendale to support us. The show sold out, we made money and people enjoyed,” Maplan said.

Beyond the dance group’s growing footprint, Sekuru Nyangatayani is widely known for his passion for music. He is a regular supporter of King of Sungura Alick Macheso and actively promotes several upcoming artistes in Mazowe District, using music as a bridge for cultural exchange and community development.

The Kanyemba gig has since been hailed as a successful cross-border cultural celebration, underscoring the unifying power of music at the start of the new year.
