Hippo Valley Estates Limited has celebrated its 70th anniversary with a Journalist Awards Ceremony aimed at recognising the media’s role in documenting the company’s contribution to Zimbabwe’s agricultural sector and surrounding communities.
The celebrations, held under the theme “Tadzika Midzi”, sought to showcase Hippo Valley’s seven-decade journey, highlighting its heritage, community impact and future ambitions.
Speaking during the event, head of Corporate and Industry Affairs Dahlia Garwe said the awards were a celebration of storytelling and the important role journalists have played in capturing the company’s evolution over the years.
“As part of these celebrations, Hippo Valley Estates Limited wanted to preserve its history in a meaningful and authentic way. Rather than simply telling our own story, we believed it was important to invite Zimbabwe’s journalists to explore our heritage, our impact and our future through independent, insightful storytelling,” Garwe said.
Hippo Valley Estates chief executive officer Tendai Masawi said the company had transformed from a small agricultural venture into one of Zimbabwe’s leading agribusinesses, while continuing to create value for stakeholders.
“For seven decades, Hippo Valley Estates has grown from an ambitious agricultural venture into one of Zimbabwe’s leading agribusinesses. Throughout that journey, we have remained committed to creating value for our stakeholders, supporting our communities, investing in our people and contributing to Zimbabwe’s economy,” Masawi said.
Under the sub-theme “Hippo Valley at 70: The Untold Story,” journalists were invited to produce original stories exploring different aspects of the company’s operations, history and impact.
A total of 13 journalists were recognised for outstanding work during the awards ceremony.

Hippo Valley Corporate Communications Manager Anne Nyakunu praised employees, growers, partners and communities for their role in building the company’s legacy.
