The main reason behind the church getting into sport was to create awareness of one of their conferences to be held in the capital on August 31 by Apostle Taonga Utabwashe.
The four schools that took part in the tournament are Dzivarasekwa High 1 who were the eventual winners of the tournament, Marlborough, who came second, Kuwadzana High who came third and Dzivarasekwa High 2 who finished fourth.
For their sterling performance, Dzivarasekwa High 1 were rewarded with a floating trophy while all team members of second placed Marlborough were presented with Catch The Fire Conference t-shirts.
Speaking to Standardsport after successfully hosting the basketball tourney, ambassador for Dzivarasekwa home group, Mlayo Ncube said as a church they had decided to spread the good news of their upcoming conference through sport.
“We don’t undermine the power of sport. I know very well that by the time we get to end of August, we would have touched the hearts of many youths through participation in sporting activities,” Ncube said.
The church donated paint to assist in sprucing up the image of the community centre.
