Time to move on from war politics |
Saturday, 28 August 2010 16:38 |
ZIMBABWE should just move on! We know about the liberation war but for God’s sake, we must live in the 21st Century not the past; our president should stop being racist but should pass down authority to the young and wise with new ideas then there’ll be change in Zimbabwe. A true leader is not selfish! — Anon

Externally-supervised poll Zim’s only option |
Saturday, 28 August 2010 16:36 |

PROFESSOR Arthur Mutambara has several times spoken against the need for fresh elections next year. Mutambara bases his argument on proposals that the economy needs to develop first before we think of holding elections, and that the political environment is not yet conducive for a free and fair election.

I read your piece in The Standard of August 22, in which you stated that Mugabe withdrew Zimbabwe from the Commonwealth in December 2008.

I don’t know why women should advocate for 50% representation in parliament. I respect women very much and believe in their capabilities to match men, but the way they want to get into power shows they lack confidence in themselves. Parliamentary posts should not be guided by the constitution but should be guided by people in constituencies.

Another court victory for Zimbabwe farmers |
Sunday, 15 August 2010 18:12 |
ZIMBABWEAN farmers supported by AfriForum, scored another victory in the North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria last week when the court ruled that the government of Zimbabwe is responsible for the wasted costs of an urgent court application erroneously brought against the farmers and AfriForum.

Benefits assessment of Marange diamonds needed |
Sunday, 15 August 2010 18:11 |
THERE has been a lot of attention given to Marange diamonds lately and a lot of hope raised around diamond sales. Around the time that teachers went on strike, some even suggested the government should sell diamonds and pay teachers salaries from the proceeds.

Zimbabweans going to learn that when Zanu PF speaks they speak with a forked tongue. Mugabe speaks about national healing whilst Jabulani Sibanda runs amok. Leaders, put your money where your mouth is and arrest and charge him. — Justice.

Long way to go before Zimbabwe comes right |
Sunday, 15 August 2010 18:10 |
CONTRARY to testimonies of people who have visited the country and mass media reports that Zimbabwe is getting right, people continue to reap poverty and suffering.

No substance in Makumbe criticism of job Sikhala |
Saturday, 31 July 2010 20:34 |
THE Standard issue of 18-24 July made very interesting reading. The piece that caught my interest the most was one entitled, “Job Sikhala, frustrated genius or rebel without cause?” Sikhala answered questions that were thrown at him soberly and articulated his views without emotion or anger. He demonstrated the kind of maturity which most of our leaders lack.

Chinotimba disowns ‘rebel’ war veterans group |
Saturday, 31 July 2010 20:33 |
I wish to clear the air following a letter published in The Standard (July 18 to July 24 issue) under the Readers’ Views and Comments Column headlined, “Have the War Veterans seen the light at last” from one F Mhlanga of Masvingo. In his letter, Mhlanga alleged that I recently blamed President Robert Mugabe “for the economic meltdown in the country” through an article by what he/she termed “War Veterans Committee”. Further, Mhlanga went on to raise several wanton allegations against war veterans.

Probe Gono over Mliswa’s RBZ loans |
Saturday, 31 July 2010 20:32 |
THE Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe governor, Gideon Gono should be investigated for improperly dealing with embattled Zanu PF’s Temba Mliswa. Mliswa allegedly defrauded the RBZ US$3,5 million when he was the personal fitness trainer of Gono.

Standard SMS: Zintec principal’s actions unfair |
Saturday, 31 July 2010 20:29 |
CAN the Principal at Morgan Zintec explain to the nation why he is holding on to the students’ final results? Doesn’t it make sense if they are given results, find employment and agree on a payment plan? His actions are retrogressive.— Concerned, Harare

Police double standards on Anglicans shameful |
Saturday, 31 July 2010 20:29 |
IS it not ironic that the same police force which has been in the news claiming it is not going to offer protection during the Constitution outreach exercise unless it is paid a staggering ransom has found resources and manpower to disrupt the annual Anglican pilgrimage.

CHICKEN breeders misled the nation by advocating for the ban of cheap chickens. Where are the tonnes of chickens they are sitting on? Government should allow importation of cheap chickens for the poor.

Standard SMS: Boring jingles |
Saturday, 24 July 2010 15:04 |

JINGLE, jingle! When propaganda goes on interminably, people get bored or irritated, the result can be devastatingly the opposite of the intended goal. — Tsveruka, Murambinda.

Mugabe should come clean on Western aid |
Saturday, 24 July 2010 15:03 |
ON July 13, President Robert Mugabe officially opened the 3rd session on the 7th Parliament of Zimbabwe and called for the normalisation of relations between Harare and key international financial institutions. Put simply, this was an admission that Zimbabwe cannot go it alone in its efforts to turn around the fragile economy.

Away with partisan police |
Saturday, 24 July 2010 15:02 |
ZIMBABWEANS are alleging that the Zimbabwe Republic Police is a Zanu PF mercenary force. This allegation is amply evidenced by the huge number of ZRP members involved in political violence against non-Zanu PF parties and by its outrageous payment demand for providing protection to the thematic outreach teams despite the fact that protecting people and property is their core business.
