Chadya reveals one last dream

IT has been a good year for Ngezi Platinum Star goalkeeper Nelson Chadya.

The shot-stopper was crowned Goalkeeper of the Year at the Premier Soccer League Awards on Friday night, adding to his first nomination onto the Soccer Stars Calendar.

Additionally he also won the Player of the Year and the Most Loyal Player accolades at the club awards.

Making it among the 11 best players and winning the best goalkeeper award in the country this year was undoubtedly the crowning moment for Chadya.

In fact it was a fulfillment of one of his childhood dreams, which is to be on the calendar and also become the best goalkeeper in the land.

The 25-year-old goalie, affectionately known as Maoko at the club also had a dream to don the Warriors colours and has already ticked that box.

But there is one dream, which remains unfinished for the star player.

“There are so many things that I wanted to achieve from the time I started playing football. I am happy that I managed to accomplish most of them, but there is only one dream that I need to achieve before I retire," Chadya said in an interview with The Sports Hub

"I set myself targets a long time ago and one of them was to play for the national team.

"I managed to achieve that and I believe I will have another opportunity to represent my country in future.

"The other target was to be the best goalkeeper in the country and as you can see I have made it on the (Castle Lager Premier Soccer League) Soccer Stars calender while I have won the Goalkeeper of the Year award.

“But the one thing that is on my heart now is to play outside the country. It's a dream that I want to achieve before my career comes to an end. I am sure it's going to happen at some point, but at the moment the focus is to continue working hard and doing my best for my club Ngezi Platinum Stars," he added.

Chadya joined Ngezi Platinum Stars back in 2016 and has been one of the best players for the club since then.

It is the first time that he won the Goalkeeper of the Year gong as well as making it onto the Soccer Stars list.

His career began in Chitungwiza as a young boy playing as an infield player.

"My career started when I was still in primary school at Seke 7 and interestingly I was an infield player. Even now I can do well playing infield as a utility player.

"I only became a goalkeeper when the person playing in that position conceded a silly goal during a match and I opted to replace him and since then I haven't looked back," he revealed.

For his secondary education he attended Magunje High in Murehwa as well as Zengeza 2.

Chadya shared his sentiments on a very eventful season for Ngezi Platinum Stars which obviously ended strongly.

"We started well and thought we were going to challenge for the title, but then had a bad run of results midway through the season. But we finished strong so we can only aim to do better next year.

Before joining Ngezi Platinum Stars Chadya played for Devine Academy in the Eastern Region and scooped the Goalkeeper of the Year award.
