CESC Fabregas is at the centre of a power struggle at Barcelona. Gunners captain Fabregas, 22, is on Barcelona’s hit list for next summer after Spanish media yesterday reported a £30m deal has already been struck.

Arsenal have furiously denied any such agreement has been struck or that they have even had any contact with the Spanish giants, but two major players at Barcelona are both working hard to make the deal happen.

Current president Joan Laporta, who is entering his final year in charge, is desperate to deliver former Barcelona teenager Fabregas before he quits.

Part of the reason that Laporta wants to get an agreement with Fabregas is to stop his sworn enemy Sandro Rosell taking charge at Barcelona. Prospective candidate Rosell is also trying to strike an agreement with Fabregas who would be the cornerstone of his election campaign.

But Rosell also pledged to deliver David Beckham five years ago – and failed miserably which suggests that the latest claims should be considered as electioneering and not promises.

Spanish media even claimed that Fabregas has been texting contacts at Barcelona to encourage them to continue their pursuit. But Fabregas has been left annoyed by media speculation this summer linking him with a move away and has already pledged his future to Arsenal. – The Mirror (UK).
