Harare dominate Youth Games

BY SUKOLUHLE MTHETHWA HARARE metropolitan dominated the Zimbabwe Youth Games after reaping 48 medals at the games that ended in Gwanda yesterday.

Harare province, who also conquered at last year’s games, harvested 11 gold medals in athletics, one gold in football, one in volleyball, two in basketball and three in boxing. The team also bagged 10 silver medals in athletics, one in volleyball and four in boxing. The team also won 10 bronze medals in athletics, one in football and handball. The team also won three bronze medals in boxing.

Midlands province came in second place at the games after scooping a total of 33 medals.  Bulawayo were placed in third place at the games after scooping 28 medals while Mashonaland West were in fourth place after scooping 23 medals.

The hosts, Matabeleland South province failed to maximise on home advantage finishing in a disappointing sixth position. The provincial youth team won four gold medals, six silver and five bronze medals.

Mashonaland Central came in the seventh position after scooping nine medals while Masvingo settled for the eighth position after winning 15 medals
