Musona’s big bucks move

Sport
BY FANUEL VIRIRIZIMBABWE international striker Knowledge Musona has been ranked the second most expensive player imported from the South Africa premiership this season, behind Thulani Serero’s mega bucks move to Dutch Ajax Amsterdam.

According to the South Africa premiership transfer figures, a staggering US$13 million (R100 million) exchanged hands in the Super Diski at the end of the transfer window.  The most expensive player is on-fire midfielder Serero, who was snapped for US$3,7 million (R28million) by Ajax Amsterdam from the Ajax Cape Town. Serero walked away with his 10% share, which translated to US$370 000.

The second most expensive player is Musona who was snapped for US$3,38 million by Germany Bundesliga side TSG Hoffenheim on a five-year deal. “The Smiling Assassin” who snatched the Golden Boot award last season after netting 15 goals in 28 league matches smiled all the way to the bank with a cool US$338 000.  This confirms Musona as the second most expensive Zimbabwean player to move this season.

The Absa premiership did not provide figures for players who went under the R400 000 mark which means that the transfer of Zimbabwe Warriors midfielder Willard Katsande does not count among the megabucks transfers in the 2010/11 season transfer window.

The transfers of Warriors goalkeeper Tapuwa Kapini, who also moved from Platinum Stars to AmaZulu did not get in the big bucks bracket after moving for US$125 000 of which he is entitled to 10% of the transfer fee.

Musona’s and Serero’s stocks are rising each day. The pair was hailed by Fifa as some of the brightest African football stars who have shone on the world stage this year. The 21-year-old Norton-born hotshot has made the Fifa All-Star XI together with Serero.

Meanwhile, Musona  made a 2-1 winning debut for his new club TSG Hoffenheim that faced Vfl Wolfsburg in a league match yesterday. Musona tore a tissue on his right leg in training sometime in September. He also missed the Warriors’ Nations Cup match against Liberia at the National Sports Stadium recently. He came in as a 63rd minute substitute yesterday.
