Daniel Nhakaniso Defending champions Mashonaland Eagles stormed into the Stanbic 20 series finals after a 23 -run victory over Matabeleland Tuskers through the Duckworth and Lewis Method after bad light stopped play at Harare Sports Club yesterday.

Tuskers won the toss and elected to field but they found themselves on the back foot as Eagles’ Dutch opener Ryan ten Doeschate cruised to an unbeaten 91-ball 121 to help his team set a competitive 207 for seven in their allotted 20 overs.

Doeschate smacked six fours and eight towering sixes on his way to the third fastest Twenty20 century of all time. Tuskers’ West Indies superstar Chris Gayle smashed an entertaining 31 ball 51 while Englishman Steven Trenchard finished unbeaten on 51 off just 31 balls before the umpires stopped play due to bad light with Tuskers on 162 for three in 18.2 overs.

Following the departure of Gayle the burden of taking Tuskers home fell for the hard hitting Charles Coventry who could however only manage 13 runs.Eagles, who won last year’s edition will now meet Mountaineers, the winners of the inaugural tournament in the final today.
