Chicken Inn clobber Rangers to go top

Sport
By Tatenda MakandaHome advantage failed to pay dividends for Blue Rangers who were dismissed 3-0 by visiting Chicken Inn at Gwanzura yesterday as the visitors climbed on top of the log table.

Skipper Herbert Dick, Tendai Mukambi and second half substitute Marshal Marimawere were on target for the Bulawayo-based Chicken Inn.Chicken Inn could have easily won the game by a bigger margin as they created a plethora of golden opportunities, only to be let down by a combination of misfortune and wayward finishing.

It was another successful voyage to Harare for Chicken Inn as they handed a two-nil drubbing to CAPS United on the same venue a fortnight ago. Nyasha Chazika had a nightmare in the park yesterday chasing shadows all afternoon with the Rangers’ rearguard leaking like a sieve.

The victory, which their coach Adam Ndlovu described as sweet, steered them to the top of the log standings following Shabanie’s draw in the much-talked about Zvi-shavane derby against  FC Platinum at Mandava yesterday.

Chicken Inn is yet to taste defeat this season after they drew with Gunners and defeated CAPS United and Quelaton in their first three games. Winstone Antonio reports that Leonard Fiyado scored a brace to sink helpless Monomotapa in a Premier Soccer League match at Rufaro yesterday.

Fiyado scored in the fourth and 19th minute respectively to enable George Madira coached Gunners side to collect their first set of maximum points. The pint-sized striker got to the end of a pin-point cross from Gunners’ new signing from Hwange, Blessing Sande who had a good game, enjoying each and every moment it.

Fiyado had to come back for the burial of Monomotapa in the 19th minute after he received a spectacular pass from Hardlife Zvirekwi just outside the penalty box and shot straight at goal, giving Monomotapa goalkeeper  Jorum Muchambo no chance at all.

Tawanda Nyamandwe could have pulled one back for the home team in the 21st minute but instead of shooting at goal, he directed his effort wide, hitting the side net with the goal keeper offguard.

Gunners could have made it three nil up in the 28th minute when they were awarded a penalty after Monomotapa’s defender Obey Mwerahari  had handled inside the box under pressure from William Manondo, but Cliff Sekete’s effort was saved back into the play by  Muchambo.
