Savanna launches unique supporters’ programme

By OUR staffOn Friday morning, the nation woke up to an unusual invitation to all DeMbare supporters, courtesy of Savannah Tobacco. The cigarette manufacturing giant beamed a unique invitation to football supporters, providing free transport to match venues under the Zora Butter ne Pacific, which is set to kick-start this morning at various pick-up points.

Savanna, who once entered a sponsorship marriage with the country’s two biggest clubs, Highlanders and Dynamos, have come up with an initiative that will see them directing their sponsorship to football club supporters rather than the clubs themselves.

Speaking to Standardsport, Savanna Tobacco spokesperson, Edmore Bvudzijena, said the company was bouncing back into football after a re-think on their sponsorship package.

“We have refocused our sponsorship. We are now going to focus on supporters, not football clubs. All the supporters, will be ferried to  the match venue at no cost. We are going to start this Sunday (today) when Dynamos play Mambas. A number of buses have been dispatched to different pick up points, where fans are going to be picked to the match venue for free,” Bvudzijena said.

Savanna Tobacco executive chairman, Adam Molai, said their company was driven by innovation and passion.  “Culminating from extensive research and analysis of football in the many years we have been involved with football, we noted that the major stakeholder in football was being marginalised. Clubs and football sponsors have done nothing for supporters worldwide and where little has been done, there has been lack of consistency,” Molai said.
