Drogba delivers Holy Grail

Chelsea became the fifth English club to win the European Cup courtesy of a thrilling 4-3 victory on penalties over Bayern Munich in Germany last night.

With the away side soaking up wave after wave of Bayern Munich attacks, it fell to Germany international Muller to nod Toni Kroos’s cross past Petr Cech with seven minutes remaining.

To all intents and purposes, it seemed as though the German club would win the tie in 90 minutes, but Didier Drogba had other thoughts.

The Ivorian thumped home Juan Mata’s corner — Chelsea’s first of the game — in the 88th minute to send the tie into extra-time.Drogba then appeared to turn from hero to villain, with his clumsy challenge on Franck Ribery resulting in a Bayern penalty.Up stepped Arjen Robben, but the Dutchman’s weak effort was easily saved by Cech.

The tie moved into penalties and Chelsea recorded their first European Cup victory.
