It’s that time of the year once again

Sport
THE domestic premiership mid-term transfer window opens today until the end of July.

There will be a lot of pushing and shoving in the transfer market as clubs beef up their teams for the second stanza of the season while other  players will be seeking greener pastures.

From the look of things, there will be less player movements on the market because clubs are trying to hold on to their players after losing their cream to the irresistible South African league.

The Super Diski league, set to explode on August 11, simply pays better than ours and it’s hard to stop the great trek down south.

Once again, I take this opportunity to encourage our players to make wise decisions in this important time of the year that has a bearing on their careers. A lot of things must be taken into consideration before putting pen to paper.

This year we had a few situations where clubs, players, football administrators and players’ unions engaged in mudslinging due to contract issues. But one thing that club officials should know is that players are not just good at dribbling past their opponents on the field of play, but are equal to the task off the field too!

Ask Castle Lager Premiership giants CAPS United, they will quickly testify to that notion. Yes, the Green Machine were dazzled early in the year by two Zimbabweans, Darryl Nyandoro and Chris Samakweri at TP Mazembe.

The two made the fool of the green side of the capital when they were given signing on fees and even travelled to South Africa with the team for the club’s pre-season tour in Polokwane, knowing fully well that they were still contracted to the Democratic Republic of Congo outfit.

CAPS only discovered that the duo were still on the books of the former African champions after their chief executive officer, Maxwell Mironga travelled to the central African country.

We had another case which involved former Monomotapa and Motor Action left back Ocean Mushure who almost missed the Dynamos ship which was about to make a cruise in the CAF African Champions League but the matter did not take long to resolve.

Another disturbing scenario involved winger Benjamin Marere and his paymasters FC Platinum who clashed over his clearance after he had decided to walk out of the platinum miners’ dressing room.

The matter was good-naturedly resolved after Marere decided to stay put.

The incident pitting Nyandoro and Samakweri against CAPS United was a classic. It serves as a lesson as we navigate into this transfer period.

Players should take note of latest registration measures that are punitive in that, players who double deal will not be registered in future and face ban.Once again, measure twice and cut once when it comes to your professional contract.

To all the players, remember to respect these pacts. They matter so much for your future.
