BY Albert Marufu THE Zifa board has given Benjani Mwaruwari up to the end of this week to pay up the outstanding US$74 000 and provide a reconciliation statement of his Testimonial match that was played on May 26 at the National Sports Stadium. The testimonial match, which saw a galaxy of stars such as El-Hadji Diouf and Khalilou Fadiga of Senegal and Nwanko Kanu playing against the Warriors to raise money for the construction of Benjani Mwaruwari School of Excellence in Bulawayo. Zifa demanded US$87 000 from proceeds of the match, but Benjani only paid US$13 000 which was distributed among Warriors players as appearances fees. Zifa chief executive officer Jonathan Mashingaidze said they still expected Benjani to pay up the outstanding balance or risk been penalised by the soccer controlling mother body. “The board resolved that the reconciled statements of that game and the outstanding balance should be paid by Friday,” he said. The board also resolved that the Warriors technical team should be afforded all the necessary support ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations Qualifier against Angola in September. “We have a friendly match against Zambia. Malawi have also indicated that they want to us to host them on August 26 in another friendly match.”
