Zimbabwe Table Tennis Union technical director, Newman Gomendo expressed satisfaction with the progress made so far, adding that all teams had confirmed their participation.

“So far it’s been good and we are working to stage a successful tournament. We are ready to host the event.

“The team had a warm-up tournament recently and we are happy with what we are seeing,” said Gomendo.

Gomendo believes the nation has what it takes to utilise home advantage and scoop medals.

An 18-member team was announced on Friday with Brian Chamboko expected to carry the hopes of an expectant nation at the tourney.

Chamboko came first in the last tournament in Tanzania and a repeat of the same performance from him could steer the nation to glory.

Countries expected to participate in the tournament include Malawi, Zambia, Tanzania and Botswana. Botswana would be making their debut appearance at the tournament. The tournament was last staged in Tanzania in 2009.
