Three junior players for Espanyol

THREE local junior football players left the country yesterday for a week-long trial stint at top Spanish club, Espanyol.

Report By Brian Nkiwane

The trials will run from tomorrow to Friday under the RDC Espanyol trials programme at Sports City Domi Jarque in Barcelona.
The players are MacAlford Madovi (20), Previledge Chatora (20) and Leo Mhinga (19).

Speaking to Standardsport on Thursday, travelling coach Richard Solobala said everything was now in order.

“We have managed to get visas for all the boys that are supposed to travel. The challenge remains funding for their upkeep in Spain, but that is not going to stop us from travelling. The club would be hosting a number of junior players across the world. Once the players impress, negotiations can start,” Solobala said.

Born on August 10 1992, Madovi, who can play either as an attacking or defensive midfielder, is at Red Arrows, a team in the lower ranks of the Zifa structures in Unit L Chitungwiza.

Chatora, who was born on October 15 1992 and can be either used as a defender or as defensive midfielder, plays for Teachers Academy in Chitungwiza.

Mhinga was born on August 24 1993 and has been hopping from one football academy to another and is currently not attached to any club.

“We hope to go out there and do our best to impress the club’s technical department. With God nothing is impossible, whoever thought that the likes of Ovidy Karuru or Knowledge Musona were going to do wonders overseas. I think we just need this chance to show what we can do,” said Madovi.
