The Black Satellites however finished second in Group A behind Egypt who edged Benin 1-0 to maintain their perfect run of three straight wins in the competition.

Two first half goals delivered the win to Ghana, including one from the tournament’s top scorer Emmanuel Assifuah who has now netted a goal in each of his three games so far.

Algeria have now crashed out of the competition after a draw and two losses left them bottom of the group. Also eliminated are Benin who also suffered two losses and a draw.

Group B’s final games will be played tomorrow with Mali already through to the last four and guaranteed top spot. They will play Ghana in the semi-finals while Egypt will tackle one of Nigeria, Congo DR and Gabon.

Ghana did not miss the services of captain Lawrence Lartey for the final Group A match due to suspension.

The centre-back received his second yellow card of the tournament after a 43rd minute booking in Tuesday’s 1-0 win over Benin. Lartey has been a towering figure at the back and will be missed for his runs forward and timely interceptions at the back. In his absence, Israel-based Baba Mensah will partner Joseph Attamah Larweh in Ghana’s backline for the dicey encounter.
